Through the Eyes of a Newborn

You turn 6 weeks on Sunday and I can only imagine how you see this big world around you. The time is passing by so fast and in years to come, I want to be able to look back on this blog together and laugh about how it all started!

There is so much loud noise, talking, laughing, music…yelling! So many new smells, colours, textures - you must be so intrigued. Sometimes you look at me with great confusion in your eyes and I feel sorry for you, although maybe you’re just wondering what the heck I am doing. I know, if I was you, I’d be worried too!
Everything is new and unfamiliar but you are now beginning to take your surroundings in. Sometimes you stare at me when you’re in my arms, hopefully realising I am your mommy. You seem to have a particular fascination with ceiling lights and love the sound of my camera! (Which is good because it is in action a lot!) 

You love hiccupping and sneezing startles you in the cutest way. Your arms fly up in the air and cover your ears!
You like baths but hate being cold. You scream the house down when you want milk...sometimes I worry the neighbours will think I am murdering my child!

We are waiting on your first smile now and we can’t wait to see it! I think I may have got one this morning but I can’t be certain it wasn’t wind as a result of you downing a bottle of milk in 15 minutes like a champion. 

Unfortunately the weather hasn’t been great lately and I haven’t gotten you out for as many walks as I would have liked. Your eyes still squint with the sunlight or any natural light so I promise to make an effort to get out lots more! 

We are starting some floor ‘tummy time’ which you don’t like at all! Your neck strength is so strong when you’re lying on me, but once I put you on the floor you stay completely still, or move your legs around, leaving your head firmly on the ground.  I think you say to yourself “YOU get on the floor, Mommy, and I’ll watch you squirm around, idiot” 

I can’t believe how fast you are growing. You are now over 8 lbs. I have to put away all your clothes from the last few weeks because your legs are too long now. Either that, or make shorts out of them! It’s sad how quickly you are growing out of things. It’s a complete wake up call for me to realise this time is going to pass super fast and I need to enjoy every moment of it. 

Almost 6 weeks already and we’ve all survived…now that’s a celebration!

BABYMOON

I decided I wanted to see some sunshine and the beach before I hit my last trimester and couldn't travel anymore. We only had a week off work but still decided to go transatlantic for some guaranteed sunshine - Florida. We got to see blue skies, friends, go shopping (Little Baby's wardrobe expanded), dine well, swims, walks on the beach and of course spent time with Suzie, my car!
While I was super excited for all of the above, he was most excited for the below two items:

Big Gulp from 7-Eleven and Cheetos!

Alan wanted a real American breakfast experience. We had great breakfasts at the hotel, but it just wasn't what he was looking for. I decided Cracker Barrel was the way to go. Old country American.... he loved it!

We weren't let down with the weather... blue skies 6 out of the 7 days. Maggie and Joe visited us at the hotel - we spent the day on the beach and by the pool... the boys talked about beers and boy stuff, and Maggie and I caught up on life! The worst part of the day was that I couldn't use the waterslide at the pool.. it was fun however, watching their faces as plunged into the water at high speed!

Mid week, we went to Miami for the day...as I listened to music in the car, Alan watched for alligators all the way along Alligator Alley. Unfortunately, again, there were none to be seen. {Thank God we found one in the lake at our hotel a few days later; otherwise, I fear Alan would have completely given up on Florida.}

We visited South Beach and watched the world go by over these bad boys.....

We then visited the American Airlines Arena for the first time to watch Miami Heat play the Minnesota Timberwolves. After living in the States close to 7 years, I never once went to a NBA game so it was pretty exciting. Sadly, by the time the game had started, I was falling sleepier and sleepier. We had fun though! Alan came up with a few choice phrases such as "Nuttin' But Net" which kept me very entertained.

The night prior, in preparation...

I had a surprise visitor from Tampa..
Eva and I were roommates and teammates at University and hadn't seen each other for about 4 years. How fast the times passes, but the greatest thing; it felt like nothing had changed at all. Ok...slight understatement from the pregnant person, but, you know what I mean.
We went to 5th Avenue for dinner, ice cream and chats.

Back at the hotel and under the sun...

I feel like I already had my own mini babyshower. Thank you so much to Eva and Liset for the beautiful presents for Little Baby, and to Gloriana who sent something all the way from Mexico to Florida as a surprise. (My friends are cooler than yours)

On the last day, we did a maternity photoshoot. Neither of us ever did one before but had so much fun with it. A few photos to come in the next post!

Completely unimpressed with having to leave, we bid Florida farewell for another few months. Next time, I imagine it will be a hugely new experience! :)

Look Who's Mommy Now!

A few months ago, we got some incredible news. News that is going to change our lives forever in the most amazing way. We are having a baby!
This is a post I never thought I would be writing so soon...it was always my dream that I will be "Mammy" but I had been willing to wait another few years to live it. Now if someone asked me to wait, I would tell them no.

To know I am going to have something that's mine, that will love me more than anyone and need me more than anybody ever has is an amazing feeling.

This is the only time I am going to experience my first pregnancy. I want to cherish all the little things that happen, all the tummy flutters, all the kicks, watching the ultrasounds. I am also trying to cherish the waking up 5 times a night for a toilet run and the fact I increasingly feel like I am sleeping with a melon under my stomach.
Morning sickness? That wasn't exactly something worth cherishing.  And whoever came up with the term "morning sickness" must have been a man. I had delightful all day sickness. A plastic bag resided at the foot of my chair in work for 2 months as well as a lot of last second toilet trips!

Since then, the sickness has passed, I am able to watch tv again, be on my computer, read books - all those little things that were close to impossible the first couple of months!

I am starting with these...

I already can't wait for the day to come and we can see our little one's face!
